Swansea 1 - 2 Arsenal Match Report: Rambo shoots down Swans
I'm pretty sure Lou Reed was referring to days like yesterday when he penned Perfect Day. I had just about stopped laughing after United and City both lost to watch an Aaron Ramsey inspired Arsenal take all three points in a difficult trip to the Liberty Stadium.
While some might urge caution and point out that there is a long way to go this season and a couple of poor results will make things seem very different... I say bollocks to them, let's get carried away! My jaw has barely got above shin level since the signing of Mesut Ozil and I can't remember the last time I felt so optimistic... about anything.
I'd also like to take a moment to sing the praises of Morgan Amalfitano who not only shanked a penalty wide against Arsenal but scored a wonder goal at Old Trafford - Top Bananas.
The first half was a little cagey with no shots on target whatsoever for either team. Jamie Redknapp, who is admittedly in no circumstances to be taken seriously, thought the teams played poorly but the truth is Swansea played well; they were sharp and passed the ball well but our organised and tenacious defensive performance cancelled them out.
The second half was much more enjoyable. Serge Gnabry grew into the game fantastically and is showing why the manager has enough faith in him to start him for three games in a row. He was unlucky not to claim an assist after a great run and lay off for Giroud but got his own reward with a cool finish after an excellent team move. His defensive work and positioning was very encouraging and I am sure will not have gone unnoticed by his manager and team mates.
Aaron Ramsey assisted the first goal, attempted and completed more passes (55 from 69) than any other Arsenal player and created more chances (3) and completed more tackles (7) than anyone else on the pitch. While he deserves huge credit for his all round game, its his finishing that has improved the most dramatically. His goal was superb; a lightning quick break including a delightful Rambo flick and some great interplay with Giroud and Jack ended with Aaron showing great composure to beat his man and hammer home and silence a second set of hostile supporters in the space of a week.
Right now he literally couldn't stop scoring, even if he wanted to. I, for one, thought he wasn't going to make the grade last season and am delighted to be proven spectacularly wrong. Long may it continue!
Man of the Match: Aaron Ramsey
Welcome to the Gun Show
Hello fellow Gooners,
Welcome to the Gun Show - A blog about all things Arsenal.
My Dad grew up in Highbury and introduced me to the club as a nipper and despite several years of suffering and heartbreak, I'm eternally grateful. This blog will be an outlet for my obsession for the club and hopefully an entertaining one.
